March 28, 2022--One way to support affordable housing efforts in your community is by participating in the Building Momentum Online Auction on May 21st. Funds raised will go toward North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity’s 18-unit mixed housing development in Silverton called Peters’ Garden, which will provide affordable homes for families, seniors and veterans.
“We are trying to make the dream of homeownership possible when our country is in a housing crisis and expenses for families continue to rise,” said NWV Habitat Executive Director Kari Johnsen.
Building affordable housing has become more challenging than ever.
“We have seen a dramatic increase in materials and trades over the last year,” Johnsen said. “We used to be able to build an affordable home for $100,000, and now we are looking at closer to $200,000 for build cost, not including land.”
The affiliate is working hard to fundraise enough money to continue building affordable homes and stronger communities.
The Building Momentum Online Auction is NWV Habitat’s biggest fundraiser of the year. It will be streamed live via YouTube on Saturday, May 21, with the pre-show airing at 5:30 pm and the program starting at 6 pm. Everyone is welcome to watch the program.
