Women Build 2017

On September 9, 2017, twenty-four women came together to help build a home for our next partner family which consists of a single mom and her 10-year-old son.  These powerful women raised more than $3,000 which covered the entire lumber cost for the walls the women framed and raised into place that day.  This event reinforces the message that every woman can make a difference through learning and using construction skills and empowers women to take active roles in their community.   It also served as a connection to the community our new partner will call home as each woman offered warm welcomes to the single mother who was building by their side.  Though our neighborhoods are comprised largely of women and children, they are also the population’s most likely to be affected by poor living conditions. Women helping women sends a positive and powerful message of strength, stability, and self-reliance which are the cornerstone tenets of Habitat for Humanity.
